The Gunslinger Speaks of the Shooting
==============================
The stranger spoke as I awoke
As the churchtower stuck noon
Nothing was said as if all were dead
That sat in the dark saloon
And the sun outside the clay had dried
Until it was but dust
A main said the rain will come again
For in time, sometime, it must
And I saw there who at me did stare
A face from long ago
A man I left for dead, though it survived it was said
The truth in that I now did know.
As his gun he seized he seemed mighty pleased
To find me in such a state
But he drew last as I was too fast
And the story I relate
Two shots rang out and he fell about
And blood splattered on the floor
And to make sure I killed the whore
I shot him in the head twice more
And my whisky been drank, the bartender I thank
And leave the room at speed
And the town I left, and a widow bereft
To freedom on my steed...

Author's description Latest in the Wild West Series... a gunslinger shoots an opponent who comes back when he thought he had killed him before...
Comments January Keck , 14 February 2009: Absolutely Fantastic!!!! They didn’t have that rating on here, but they very well should have! Tales of the wild west appeal greatly to me, especially in poetical form. My family lived some of the more sedate wild tales of Texas history. Perhaps you were just in a playful mood, but oh my--the muse doth lead!
