I see them
Opposite me
On the long bus
Holding each other
And me?
I’m holding my sandwich
That I made this morning.
With cold meat and mustard
One bite.
It tastes good.
And again I stare
At them
Sitting and holding
One another.
She holds him
Lays her head on his shoulder
Secure in his large body.
And he sits
And looks in her hair
She is the one who
Makes him secure
She is the root that
Connects him to
The world.
To life.
They sit
Embraced
In love.
And me?
I’m holding my sandwich.
A few more bites it will be over
And I will have nothing left.
