The Fiery Conversion of Ireland

The great kings of the pagans wail ever in burning: the hosts of Jesus without a fall, they are joyous after triumph. The Faith has grown, it will abide until the Day of Judgement: guilty pagans are carried off, their forts are not inhabited. The oldest cities of the pagans (sean- chathraig na ngente), concerning which proscriptive right has been affected, they are empty without worship, like Lugaid’s site (Tara). Paganism (ingentlecht) has been ruined, although it was illustrious and widespread.

In Druidic Ireland Samhain was the most important festival of the year. Could it really be coincidence that Samhain was held at the time when the Earth crossed the powerful Encke stream with meteoric activity at its height? From the time of the construction of the megaliths six thousand years ago, as the first Druidic civilization began to flourish, that annual passage through a major meteorite belt in November (Samhain) would have been most impressive, indeed threatening to the early Druidic watchers of the skies. We only have to read the chronicles of Gildas, the Roman priest, to see how Christianity would have impressed itself on the fifth century Irish, propagandised against their own Druids who were helpless in the face of catastrophe. Gildas describes disastrous thunderbolts striking the British Isles, calamities used by the incoming missionaries including Patrick as signs of the wrath of God, who promised worse to come upon land and people if they did not ‘convert’. Clube and Napier in their book The Cosmic Winter quote Gildas, who wrote his chronicles two hundred years after the terror:

The fire of righteous vengeance (which) wasted town and country…horrible it was to see the foundation stones of towers and high walls thrown down bottom upwards in the squares, mixing with holy altars and fragments of human bodies.

As Britain and Ireland were subjected to dramatic deforestation which could have been caused by massive forest fires in the middle of the fifth century (and again in the mid-6th century) the incoming Roman missionaries, particularly those entering into Druidic Ireland, would have made great play of this ‘failure’ by the Druids, the very custodians of the forests, to save them against the anger of the Christian God. The Confessions of Patrick describe how he wandered for miles upon miles across a desolate Ireland, a waste land of burnt forests, a vast wilderness, total desolation, where there was no human, animal or plant life to be found. The populations of Britain and Ireland were so devastated that many of the surviving Celts moved across the sea to Brittany for safety and survival. The success of the conversion was assured as the missionaries exhorted those remaining to stay on, promising that the new Christian God would protect them from all harm. Towards the end of this era of mass conversion the kings deserted Tara. Indeed that sacred ancient site has itself every appearance of being hit by a meteorite. .



The scale of these disasters of meteorites showering down upon the British Isles and devastating the lands and forests, which reached a height of frenzy in the ninth year of the mission of Patrick in 441 AD, was far more terrible than any similar occurrence in any other part of the world since the middle east was hit three thousand years previously. There has been nothing like it since. Not only were the forests destroyed, but the climate affected as well as comet and meteorite dust acted as a sun shield and deep freeze conditions spread across the land. Observers from as far apart as Spain and China reported seeing an unusual comet in 441 AD, accounting for the catastrophe as reported by Gildas. And, during this time, the Earth passed directly through the dust trail associated with Encke’s Comet and the Taurid meteors too. It was immediately after these terrible events that missionaries moved into all parts of Ireland on direct orders from Rome. They may have been part of an international relief team of that time but they certainly took advantage of the total collapse in Irish society, with the old Druidic Order destroyed, unable to offer any resistance. Colliding asteroids (God’s flashes of lightning) can change beliefs and whole religions too. Not only the unlearned Celts, but many of the Irish intellectuals of the time, particularly the Bards well versed in the Greek classics, were readily ‘taken in’. The missionaries themselves fully believed that they were living in a time of the ‘wrath of God’.

Drawing upon the story of the origin of the universe and the gods, as given by the eight century BC Greek poet Hesiod in his Theurgy, Clube and Napier offer a delightfully persuasive interpretation of the way religion itself developed and changed as ‘heavenly bodies’ struck. Olympus, the home of the gods, is seen as a great comet streaking across the sky where Zeus reigns supreme, firing his thunderbolts at the Earth from time to time. A huge battle in the heavens then breaks out between Zeus and the Titans. When Zeus:

came from heaven and Olympus. Thick and fast, the thunderbolts , with thunder and lightning, flew from his stout hands and they made a holy flame roll along, as they came in quick succession. The life-giving Earth blazed and crashed all around , and all around immense woods crackled loudly in the fire…the gleaming brilliance of the thunderbolt and lightning blinded their eyes…

The Roman missionaries used such arrant propaganda mercilessly, as they were specifically trained to do, and the Druids had no chance against such arrant nonsense. As astronomers the Druids knew the truth. But in 441 AD the Celts of these islands had seen the heavenly terror with their very own eyes. The survivors passed the ‘wrath of God’ down to their children and their children’s children. Crashing mountains moved Faith, triumphed over fact and ensured a bright future for the new church in the ancient homeland of the Druids.

Throughout its history the Earth has been subjected to sudden catastrophes and in The Reversing Earth physicist Peter Warlow puts forward a unifying explanation of these events – including the ice ages, the frozen mammoths, the biblical flood, the dinosaur extinction, reversals of the Earth’s magnetic field, sudden changes in culture, climate – and religion!


Worlds in Collision

Our way of life must not be disturbed. Wo/man occupies a friendly planet in its comfortably stable part of a safe solar system, lovingly provided by a loving God. All around us there is chaos, collision and catastrophe. We see, on television at least, if not through the astronomers’ telescopes, whole galaxies explode, huge collisions way off in space. But our own galaxy, the Milky Way, is, naturally, a quiet corner of the universe , a secure place to be. The land trembled but that was long ago. In the present, here and now, there is peace and calm on and around our planet home, remote in space and time, separate from the violence of the rest of the universe. Just sit back and listen to the heavenly music of Silent Night and Ave Maria. God is in his Heaven and all is well, so have faith and if you have any worries get down on your knees and pray. The whole of Christendom will be down on their knees in prayer – or under the bed – as we who were old enough during the Cuban missile crisis recall. But it’s all really comfortable now, or so it seems, with the prospect of nuclear war out of the way due to the disintegration of the Soviet Union. Nothing can happen to us now. It’s a comforting thought. But that is all it is. It satisfies our fundamental need for security. Politics, religion and science, despite an occasional row, have combined to paint a cosy picture of a secure place for wo/man in the universe. The Church and State fulfil that need. Combined in their arrogance, they allow wishful thinking to lull an unthinking population into a sense of false security. In fact we are not so secure. The violence of the universe can erupt upon the Earth as readily as anywhere in the cosmos. It happened so many times not so long ago. It can happen again. The cairns, stone circles, dolmens and standing stones across the land are an open book for all to read. As you know by now they serve more important purposes too in preserving the energy of the land. Some of the myths and legends too, when deciphered today by secular experts, transmit the experiences of people who were involved in that cosmic violence. They contain important truths in carefully prepared messages by intelligent ancestors to guide us, their remote descendants, through future times. For it is we who are the children and they who are the masters of knowledge and wisdom. And they are not the exclusive preserve of an elite circle of modern Druids, but for all the peoples of the world now and in time to come.

In the field of archaeology regarding the ancient sites, Druid researchers have left the professional archaeologists gasping over the past thirty years. In this discipline much of the received opinion is just that – opinion! Rigorous scientific techniques, such as - those employed by Professor George Eogan, have come to the field late in the day. Better late than never. The biggest battle Druids have had to fight is with archaeologists. The Druid scientist literally working on a shoestring and with no salary at all, up to nineteen hours a day, seven days a week all year round (for the love of it) has come out of that battle happy but strained. Understandably, in Ireland at least, Faith sometimes gets the better of what real science archaeologists have.

Understandably, there is a great reluctance to accept some scientific intrusions, such as cosmology into the realms of an archaeology that does not even have a decent physics curriculum, with no astronomy at all on its syllabus – despite the fact that the very best science faculties are often on the same campus!

Mention ‘Archaeo-astronomy’ and your average archaeologist will look up at the daylight sky in holy horror – I told one that he should try looking up at the sky at night. Archaeologists often tend to be more familiar( than I would for instance) with the subtleties of patterns on earthenware than they are with the mathematics needed to analyse the astronomical significance of the alignments of the cairns, stone circles and standing stones. For all that, let the budding archaeologist honour the ancient site he or she is about to enter, pause to reflect and respect before commencing, and much that is occulted there will be ‘given under guidance’.

I have no desire to go down as an alarmist. But consider that if there was a star explosion in our own galaxy, say of one of the many stars within fifty light years distance from our planet. We would probably die along with all life on Earth. There is nothing in our solar system to set us apart from the rest of the universe.

I notice that Irish television in their latest series, based upon a new coffee table book brimful with the most modern colour photographs, titled Secret Sights puts down our ancient Druids as ‘Sun worshippers’ and the like. It makes a good guidebook for the layman around the sites, and the photography is real for a change but, alas, like so many such books produced these days, it does not add one whit to our knowledge – I have yet to see an Irish television programme that deals meaningfully with our prehistory, or even tries to discover and tell us something, anything, new.

It is likely that local communities all over the British Isles, France, and most of Europe, had their plethora of gods and goddesses much as the Catholic Church has its plethora of angels and saints. People still tend to think of Druidry as a religion in the modern sense, that there must therefore have been thousands of Druids and Druidesses all over the place, all with their own ‘parishes’, which goes to prove yet again that you cannot look upon or examine Druidry through modern eyes.

Yes the Druids were, and still are, interested in the Sun. Several investigators who are not Druids have claimed that the rotation rate of the Earth on its axis actually changes at times of severe atmospheric storms from solar outbursts. Now that is straying deep into Druid territory. Livshits, Sidorenkov and Starkova of the Russian Institute for Terrestrial Magnetism claimed that there is a definite connection between the Earth’s rotation rate and the magnetic field of the Sun.

Engrossed readers of this section will find Aubrey Burl interesting. He made an extensive study of our megalithic sites and comes up with the most interesting observations and data in his Stone Circles of the British Isles and especially in his Prehistoric Astronomy and Ritual. Buy these books, rather than the usual ‘re-hashes’ of ‘Celtic Wicca’ (sic) and ‘Faery Wicca’ (more sic), then you can spare me a lot of questions when we meet up. It is exhausting to have to personally answer a thousand questions from seven hundred people in eight hours, which happened to me at Tara one midsummer day. I was hoarse and ‘wrecked’ for a week afterwards.

No, I am not, as I am so often asked, a Darwinist. The more I learn, the more I see in nature, the more I find myself in sympathy with some version of a creationist view. When you are out there in nature take in everything you can, and above all trust your first impression. I do not subscribe to Genesis, but it points the way.
Nor do I subscribe to Darwin’s ‘accidents’ to explain life itself – although they could conceivably explain collisions in space!

Didn’t the Good Book mention somewhere that “the angels of heaven lusted after the daughters of man”. Now there is an ‘accident’ that one could readily believe in. For it would account for the ‘evolution’ of homo sapiens in mind and spirit. When the Druids saw Patrick’s Old Testament, for he seemed fond of that, I can see that they nodded their heads in agreement with such gems of wisdom. They loved too the parables and wise sayings of Jesus, who in turn learned much from the Essenes of Qumran. There are more real gospels too, the Nag Hammadi scrolls, found in the Egyptian desert in 1945 in all their uncensored glory.

Unfortunately the first Christian monks, including Patrick, to arrive in Ireland were not bothered to collect the ancient Druidic science. They were too busy indoctrinating the native Irish into their rigid dogma, and, as empire builders are wont to do, incorporating as many of the populace as they could into their grand design. I have no inherent objection to Christianity – I would not have stayed on in the Church if I had. Works such as the Bible act as storehouses of ancient knowledge. Much of the Old Testament is Jewish history, more of it myth, legend and fable, but there are more interesting strains of evidence in there, invaluable when placed together with other ancient testaments of the early world.

Even the Stones Speak

There were serious disturbances of our solar system within the last ten million years. Velikovsky, to his credit, thumbed his nose at the slander and lies thrown at him by his fellow scientists in stating that there were marked disturbances of our solar system only a few thousand years ago! I am among the rapidly growing supporters of Velikovsky, because I know of existing proof in his favour amid the stone circles.

Right across Ireland, Britain and much of Europe thousands of cairns, stone circles, dolmens and standing stones quietly speak a language of their own to those of us who have taken long years to read ‘the book of the land’. And, unlike many archaeologists, we know the related astronomy too, thus getting the whole picture as we were meant to. We know that all these structures had certain energy building and networking to do across the land. Although the Druid-diviner with pendulum and rod is more susceptible than any electronic equipment ( I am also trained as an electronics technician) scientists have recorded energy on their elaborate equipment, energy emanating from these ancient structures, mostly of piezo-electricity. Naturally, we smiled. Newgrange, Stonehenge, Avebury, Callanish, Carnac – these are just some of the bigger, more famous structures left after careless farmers destroyed many down through the ages. There is so much written about them elsewhere that I will conclude with their significance as evidence of strange occurrences in times long past. Their construction required an incredible amount of hard work by whole populations. More remarkable is that they are all laid out with great precision and scientists too have confirmed this. What we are researching today is where the missing ones were and then we shall have the entire story. But we have sufficient of it as matters stand. One man stands out: Professor Thom, who was Professor of Engineering at Oxford University – note, not an archaeologist! He and his family deserve a lot of credit for their careful surveying of many of the ancient sites.
Their findings, since confirmed umpteen times, were startling. Most of the circles are not exactly circular. They can be slightly flattened on one side, or egg-shaped – not badly laid out as previous presumed. Nor were they used for ‘sacrifice’ as they have no religious significance. Professor Thom also discovered that they were built to a common unit of length. People who knew the value of Pi and the relationship of the sides of the right-angled triangle built Newgrange. They also knew the golden mean ratio, crystal properties, and it has been argued, even the speed of light, although “instantaneous” would have been near enough as a value that would have been apparent from observation. They knew all this, and God knows what else, nearly six thousand years ago in Ireland. Professor Thom, and since then almost everybody else, concluded that these sites were intended as astronomical observatories. Indeed today’s astronomers (though, not, significantly, the archaeologist!). refer to them as such.

They had, in fact, far more powerful uses and properties than that. The level of scientific brilliance and technical expertise is so staggering that people just shake their heads , asking – what manner of beings were they? For centuries it was believed that the builders were lesser mortals, even ignorant savages sacrificing humans and animals. Christians wrongly associated then with ‘religion’, assuming that they were the forerunners of cathedrals and churches today. And for centuries everybody was wrong..

The original purpose was for astronomy, for calendrical purposes, for protecting the land, the people and the planet. Of course there were ‘religious’ overtones , for the upper echelons of the scientist-astronomers among the ancient Druids believed in and worshipped a supreme creator. These megaliths were not built by ‘astronomer-priests’. Physicist Peter Warlow gets it right when he declares (in The Reversing Earth): “Forget the priests – they were astronomers!” He continues:

“they had a need to make accurate and comprehensive astronomical measurements. The planets were doing something for which they were aptly named. They were wandering. A wandering planet – wandering not in today’s stately and gentle fashion, but in a very wayward fashion – is not a very nice thing to have in the solar system, especially as the Earth is going to be in the way of that wanderer at some time in the very near future.”

In the same vein I query the round towers of Ireland. Were they really built for protection from Viking bands, as we all learned at school? There is at least one round tower still standing – and being renovated – outside Dublin, which dates from the fifth century, long before a Viking was ever heard of! A round tower with a stout door only eighteen feet above ground level, such as we have here in the middle of Kilkenny City, would provide scant protection from a marauding Viking Warband. Now it would make sense as an observatory for a watcher of the skies. A Druid, for instance.

Everybody wanted to know if and when they were about to be affected in the way that their ancestors had been, the ancestors from whom they had inherited their sophisticated knowledge. Without professional observatories already in existence, and without radio or television to communicate, large groups organised themselves to build large observatories and small groups built their own small observatories. And they all had the will to co-operate, and, fortunately, the time to take a lot of trouble to build with care.

But 186 x 1000 = 186,000 and the speed of light is 186,000 miles per second!

Forgive the maths, but they say that figures can prove anything!


The Circle is Completed


Excavations carried out of the sites where the ancient astronomers of Stonehenge lived indicate that they were an unusual and elite group whose food supplies were brought in reverence from elsewhere by others who were hunters and gatherers. It seems that they received provisions as a form of tribute from the awestruck peoples round about. Having built Newgrange in Ireland, some of the Atlantean Druids moved on to build Stonehenge in England and Carnac in Brittany along their route across Ireland, Britain, Europe and ancient Greece, to finally build the Temple of Karnak and the Pyramids of Egypt. It is implicit in the mathematics and astronomical alignments. They gave rise to such awe among the native Egyptians that they were worshipped as gods and goddesses. In time Moses, initiated into the secrets of the High Priesthood of Egypt, together with Aaron and his followers, brought the sacred knowledge into the Land of Israel. There it flourished among the initiates, the scribes of the Old Testament and then among the Holy Essenes of Qumran on the shores of the Dead Sea. There, in the wilderness of Judea, there came a time two millennia ago when a young man came among them to study and to train for eighteen years, to undergo many initiations and to acquire the expertise of utilising the secret knowledge.

Twelve hundred years later during the Crusades the Military Order of the Temple, the Knights Templar, tasted of the ancient wisdom and brought it back with them to their manifold empires in Europe. Rome became horrified at the prospect of those secrets – they could spell the end of the Church, it was feared. The Templars were suppressed, arrested on orders of the Pope and the Chiefs of the Order executed. Those Templars who escaped arrest fled to the relative safety of England, and then to Scotland and Ireland. From the public burning at the stake of Jacques deMolay, Supreme Commander of the Order of the Temple in Paris on Good Friday 1307, seven hundred years ago, it was but two hundred years to the revolution known as the Reformation. The adepts in turn brought about the Renaissance, the Enlightenment and the French Revolution that drove the Church from France. A Druidry that had never died out was manifesting itself across the centuries. Events had turned full circle.

They are spiralling now.
